February ended. March began. Goals were not recapped or created. Oops!

March 3 = time to fix that

Feb goals:

1. PR in Hyannis – HUGE YES. PR by 14 minutes.

🙂

2. Buy & make something with kale – No.  I haven’t been to the grocery store in multiple weeks. Will happen, but hasn’t yet.

3. keep running outside – yeah. this shouldn’t even count as a goal. Its been so mild outside this hasn’t really been an issue.

4. twice a week yoga –  gigantic fail. I think I went to/did yoga maybe 3 times this month.

5. commit to a March race – another no. but I did commit to bootcamp!  I will continue running through this program and will probably do a 5K in March, but haven’t registered for a race yet.

March goals:
1. Stick with bootcamp – I run. Sometimes I go to classes at the gym or do a DVD at home. I am NOT comfortable on the free weight/fancy equipment side of the gym.  These workouts are going to be a challenge for me. I’m excited about it and nervous at the same time.
.
2. Do at least one double digit run – I’m not training for anything and probably won’t be for awhile.  I feel like I’m always following a plan, so being without one is going to be different. I don’t want to lose my endurance – a double digit run is necessary.
3. Finish the book for book club –  I downloaded it last night. Book club is Friday. We all promised to finish this one, since only one person finished last month. (ha! oh and I still haven’t finished that one. oops)  For this month, I’m 16% in already! but there’s a lot of book left before Friday.
.
4. blog more frequently –  self explanatory.
.
any major accomplishments in Feb? fun goals for March?

February goals

oh hello friends.

another month begins.  February is my least favorite month, for a bunch of reasons.

1. its cold and snowy

2. there’s little hope of it being not-cold anytime soon

3. the year isn’t new anymore. excitement is gone.

4. no long weekends

Yet, this year – its really not that cold. There is no snow.

oh hello legs! oh yeah - I ran in shorts tonight. It was glorious

Maybe spring is coming soon?! please.  and I finally work for company that respects the Presidents. (but not MLK oddly enough?! but I’ll take what I can get)  So yeah, I’m thinking that maybe this February is going to be less depressing than I remember every other Feb being.   Let’s hope.

February goals –

1. PR in Hyannis – Since I didn’t run in Philly, 2:22 is still my one & only for the half.  I need to crush it.

2. Buy & make something with kale – I’ve eaten kale once and liked it. Given that its like a crazy super veggie, I want to work it in more. Yet, I never buy it. If I put in writing, I might get that done.

3. keep running outside – Not only is running outside better for racing, but its probably better for my head too. let’s hope the weather keeps cooperating.

4. twice a week yoga –  I’ve been good at once a week, but I really want to get there twice. Once at the gym, and once hot yoga at the new studio, which I did try last night. It was good.  I forgot how hot & sweaty heated classes are. Excited to go back.

5. commit to a March race – one race a month, right?   the race I was looking at is morning after St. Patrick’s Day.  Does that sound like the best idea I’ve ever had? No.  I have a few alternatives in mind, but I need to figure it out and register.

who’s running super sunday this weekend?  hyannis in a few weeks?
any fun goals this month?

January was loongg

Usually I write these and “I’m like wow, that month flew by. How is it over so fast?! ”  Not this time. January was loongg. I’m ready for it to be over.  I feel like New Year’s was foreverr ago.

.

January goals –

1. make time for my long runs  – yup. they got done. before work wasn’t ideal but it was the only way for two of them. only 2 long runs left before hyannis 🙂

2. keep running outside – averaged twice a week which I would say is pretty damn good for January.

3. yoga – I got there at least once a week. Good, but I can do better. Still haven’t tried the new place, but going tonight!

4. be smart about money – I guess. I haven’t really done any shopping which is good. Bringing my lunch pretty much every day. Lots of cooking & only one big grocery purchase. I did spend more than normal with visitors though.

I went to NY for New Year’s, had 2 weekends of visitors, did yoga a handful of times, and managed to run 63 miles. January was fun but busyy.

I’m ready for a low key February.

suggestions for Feb goals?

Have you read this? No? You should.

The 1-Step Success Plan

I got this in an email on Tuesday. I get a lot of emails from Livestrong and Adam Bornstein has a lot of great things to say. This has to be his best one yet.  Read it.  There is really no arguing with his points & its super-motivating.

So much so, that Tuesday night I decided to run outside. It was 22 degrees & 18 mph wind, but I bundled and went. Am I crazy? Yes. It was brutal and slow. I was fully convinced I had wind-burn on my face, but luckily, I was wrong. I ran main roads through the city, since its safer.  I love the city all lit up at night.

20120105-094548.jpghow pretty are these lights?!

(I look ridiculous, I’m aware.)

Definitely not a good run, but I was really glad I went. I was pretty numb by the time I got home.  Thankful for both heat and my shower.

Yesterday, I got up and cranked out 5 treadmill miles before work.  Thinking it was the only time I had the option to work out forced me out of bed.

Today – I’m going to drag myself to yoga. Do I feel like going? Not really, but I’ll be glad once I get there.

I’m sure the motivation will wear off at some point, but when that happens.. read it again.

.

what motivates you? any tricks to keep it going?

Over a year ago, before I thought anyone would ever read it, I posted this.

A simple list of goals, things I wished for in my future and in the new life I was hoping for.

I look back at those goals and realized I accomplished every single one. A few months later, I posted this.. and accomplished those too.

I did a lot in the last year:

I uprooted my life, started a new job, and moved into a new apt in a new city.

I started running.  I’ve run hundreds of miles: including two 5K’s, three 10K’s, and a half-marathon. AND, I managed to love it.

I do yoga, not always as often as I would like, but I’m making it happen.

I read. I’ve read probably 15 books this year, which may not sound like a lot.  In 2010 though, I think I read one and only because I was on vacation.

I cook. A LOT.

I lost 15 pounds. I got healthier.  I feel stronger and most importantly, I feel better in my own skin.

..

and then there were the things that 2011 brought that I didn’t have on a list…

I took what was my frustrated/tipsy/hopeful internet ramblings and turned it into a blog, with readers (!!)

I’m staying in my apt  (and if you’ve moved as many times as me, you know thats huge)

I stepped out of my comfort zone, a lot.

Lisa asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding.

Not one but two of my good friends had gorgeous babies that I can’t get enough of.

I made lots of new friends.

I met a great guy.

AND I’m going to be aunt. excitement can’t even describe it.

That’s one hell of a year. So, every so often when I think I still “haven’t figured it out yet”, I have to remind myself that I’ve come a long way. I had no idea how true this would be.   Maybe I have it figured out more than I realize.  Maybe all I need to do is make one good decision and then make another..

One step at a time my friends.

I couldn’t be happier.

2011 has been unbelievable, friends.

Bring on 2012!

Dec. goals

December.

The last month of 2011.

2011 has been a crazyy year.

What do I plan to accomplish before its over?

1. yoga – are you sick of this yet? I’m not. I heart yoga. So I will go every thursday & hopefully more than that.

2. will not spend unnecessary money on food – in the last 7 days, I spent $200 on groceries. Oops. I will eat them all or cook & freeze things so nothing goes to waste. I suppose can buy a few things to supplement what I have if need be, but seriously.. I need to stop spending like an idiot. (this also means I will bring my lunch every day & not go to Starbucks)

which shouldn’t be difficult given the amount of leftovers from yesterday.

3. bake or make something festive & christmasy – its fun. why not. (plus I probably already have everything I need). what I made last night for tomorrow’s holiday book club does not count.

bacon? scallions? sounds like red & green to me

everything is better with bacon. no?

click for recipe - I subbed white choc since it was easier to find.

4. be nice to my foot – self-explanatory but difficult.

and I’m late!! oops. Heading to JTs. thats’s all for tonight 🙂

After my little trek  (and by trek I mean slightly out of my way) to get orthotics last night, I was pretty productive.

productive makes me weirdly happy. sometimes I put things on my to-do list, just to get the satisfaction of deleting them an hour later. ridiculous I know.

Did laundry, made some hummus & threw together a quick dinner

I got that Quinoa/Rice blend at HLS & had yet to use it.

I got tons of groceries delivered.  I only needed a handful of specific things that Whole Foods wouldn’t have, so I ordered Peapod. If I’m paying a delivery fee, I’m stocking up on lots of heavy things, and really.. anything that’s less expensive.  oops.

Now that I have excessive amounts of food, I must cook right?

20111130-155455.jpg11 pm sounds like the perfect time to chop veggies & prep the crock pot for today’s all day adventure

20111130-155501.jpg

Veggies chopped, dry ingredients measured, wet ingredients out.  Ready for some early morning throw-together.

20111130-155510.jpgPretty excited for this when I get home tonight.

Crock Pot Lentil Sweet Potato Soup

I have no idea what possessed me to make this, but it looks healthy & delicious. Maybe just because its made in the crock pot. Loving it lately.  Seriously though.. let’s hope I like lentils.

Nov 30th huh? Do I have to recap my Nov goals?  Probably.

Did I meet my goals? Not exactly.

1. PR at the Philly Half Marathon –  Fail. No explanation necessary. Ugh.

2. Yoga once a week – No. I went to yoga once. Just 1 time. I was too focused on running/being injured to get there again.

3. Shred in the AM – Negative.  I did the Shred once. At night. I suck.

4.  Start my Christmas shopping – At least I got this one?! It didn’t take much effort though. Yes I started.      Surprise! I finished too. That’s kind of exciting.

November was NOT awesome goal-wise, but it was a pretty good month in general. December will be even better 🙂

.

What were your Nov highlights?

 any crock-pot recommendations for me?
