good morning

nothing makes you feel more alive than a brisk 8 miles before the sun comes up.

I haven’t had a whole lot to say the last few days. Mainly because I skipped my long run this weekend. I meant to do it, but I got distracted, had a lot of fun, and then was just too tired.  I ran 3.5 on Saturday, so it wasn’t a complete fail, but true story.. 3.5 ≠ 8 miles.

I felt kind of guilty about it, especially since the next two weekends are going to be even harder to get runs in.  I looked at my training plan though: last week long run was 8, this week long run is the optional 5K race. So I quit the guilt and switched the weeks. 

I have a pretty packed schedule for the next couple days though, so this morning was really my only option. done & done. Now I can do everything and be stress free

What’s going on this week? lots of fun stuff.

Tonight: dinner with Christina – possibly spaghetti squash round 2

Tomorrow: dinner & Kendra Morris show with JT

Friday: Sara’s birthday celebration plus visitors

Saturday: watching the Pats game & visitors continued

Over a year ago, before I thought anyone would ever read it, I posted this.

A simple list of goals, things I wished for in my future and in the new life I was hoping for.

I look back at those goals and realized I accomplished every single one. A few months later, I posted this.. and accomplished those too.

I did a lot in the last year:

I uprooted my life, started a new job, and moved into a new apt in a new city.

I started running.  I’ve run hundreds of miles: including two 5K’s, three 10K’s, and a half-marathon. AND, I managed to love it.

I do yoga, not always as often as I would like, but I’m making it happen.

I read. I’ve read probably 15 books this year, which may not sound like a lot.  In 2010 though, I think I read one and only because I was on vacation.

I cook. A LOT.

I lost 15 pounds. I got healthier.  I feel stronger and most importantly, I feel better in my own skin.

and then there were the things that 2011 brought that I didn’t have on a list…

I took what was my frustrated/tipsy/hopeful internet ramblings and turned it into a blog, with readers (!!)

I’m staying in my apt  (and if you’ve moved as many times as me, you know thats huge)

I stepped out of my comfort zone, a lot.

Lisa asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding.

Not one but two of my good friends had gorgeous babies that I can’t get enough of.

I made lots of new friends.

I met a great guy.

AND I’m going to be aunt. excitement can’t even describe it.

That’s one hell of a year. So, every so often when I think I still “haven’t figured it out yet”, I have to remind myself that I’ve come a long way. I had no idea how true this would be.   Maybe I have it figured out more than I realize.  Maybe all I need to do is make one good decision and then make another..

One step at a time my friends.

I couldn’t be happier.

2011 has been unbelievable, friends.

Bring on 2012!

monday monday

oh hello friends.

hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

I took recovery and rest pretty seriously last week.  i.e. I went running once – for 2.5 miles. and on the other days, I celebrated, played with friends, and didn’t work out at all.  It was nice not to have a schedule.

Tonight – I put myself back on a schedule. Lots of fun races coming up, details tomorrow.

3 fast miles on the treadmill and then Level 1 – 30 Day Shred.  Felt awesome!

I really can’t believe the race is over.

I’ve been talking about a half marathon for over a year and a half, running for 6 months, and have been committed to a training plan for almost as long.

goal accomplished.

now what?

Half marathon training certainly wasn’t life consuming, like a full would be.  It did consume my thoughts though(as I’m sure you’re all aware) and it made me pretty cautious with my workouts. I ran what the plan called for but was really hesitant to strength train or try anything new. To the point where I almost didn’t wear that visor, “because I’ve never worn a visor on a run before & I can’t do anything new on race day.”  I’m so so glad I did, because that rain was fierce, but not in my eyes. Can you imagine if I lost a contact!?

Tonight, I did some yoga and stretching with hopes of feeling normal soon (though I feel surprisingly okay). I’m a little nervous though that I’ll lose my motivation, the routine without the end goal to keep me focused.

I have a few races for the fall but nothing soon.  I downloaded a training plan for a 10K I’m running in October, but will I stick to it?   I know I can run a 10K. Without the fear of failure, will I still push myself?

I hope so.

One decision at a time.

yoga today. elliptical tomorrow?  hopefully back to running by the end of the week.

new shirt makes me happy.  thanks dad. 🙂

this runnah needs to get back out there & with new sneakers ASAP.

I need some new routes in my life. Suggestions?

I can’t even begin to do a recap.

I had a phenomenal time.

Expo – Saturday

The expo got me really excited. Then we drove the route. oh hello HILLS. then I got nervous.

this is about to take permanent residence on my fridge.

It’s entirely possible that I’ve lost my mind, but I’d like to think I’m just motivated & more importantly, committed.

Today was supposed to get up to triple digits, so I got up before the sun (literally) to get in my long run before the heat got intense.

its 5:30ish. i’m sleepy, a lil nervous, and not as excited as I wanted to be, I’ll pretend.

don’t worry, I drank it anyway.

It just poured outside so I’m pretty excited that I missed that. iphones and rain do not get along well. The sun is supposed to come out this afternoon. I’m planning on some pool time, so lets hope. I still haven’t been yet. oops. & really I might a nap. might as well get a tan while I recover.

pretty excited to actually be in Boston this weekend. its been awhile.  🙂

my 4.5 day weekend starts NOW!

hurrah!

so excited for all the fun people this weekend.

(less excited for the 10 miles I have to do tomorrow, but itll be fun too I guess)

 

ONLY 3 WEEKS til my half!  I got all the final info via email last night and realized HOLY sooooooon.  eeeeekkkkk

so of course I stayed up late creating a 40 song, 2.5 hour long playlist for the race (and my long runs between now & then)     i’m ridiculous. but its sooo good. 

promise to share once its finalized.

 

and obviously because it was Katie’s birthday yesterday (and what else makes packing more fun), I poured myself some scotch, toasted from a few states away, & sent her these pics.  wouldn’t you just love to get ridiculous self portraits from me?  ha.
