For the first time since Feb, I raced.

I approached a start line on a misty 50 degree morning and I loved it.

The last month or two, I’ve been running but its been different. I’ve been running because I should, for the workout, not because I want to or because I love it.   So I walked into this race as Saturday’s workout, no plans, no expectations.  I ran comfortably and didn’t check my pace once.    I would’ve been disappointed if I didn’t PR, being that the last 5K ran was my first race, but I wasn’t really concerned.  Whatever happens, happens.

Official results:

27:23 – a PR by over a minute and only 23 seconds shy of my stretch goal.  Had I paid attention, I could’ve hit that sub-27.  Next time.

How was the race itself?  Not too big, but big enough. Water stations were well stocked and in the right  places. The only mile marker I noticed was mile 1. They allow strollers which I didn’t love but they weren’t really an issue.  The course was flat and on the water for the most part. I’d say its definitely the best 5K course I’ve run.  I’d absolutely do it again.

Am I all amped up about racing again?  Not really. But I am looking forward to the next one.  Plus, it brought back the love for running at least for a bit, enough so that I ran the 3.5 miles home after the race.

The weather is making me even crazier than usual, so I’m going to ramble for a bit.

I’m in a phenomenal mood and all I want to do it is be outside. (I even broke out the flipflops this morning)

Work? no thanks.

I got up yesterday and decided I was bored with breakfast, so I’ll just whip up some baked oatmeal. like its no big deal.

I used this recipe from Chocolate Covered Katie. so so good. Now, I want to try them all.

After work, I got my workout in. Progression speed intervals on the treadmill. surprisingly awesome. sweaty mess. loved it. My legs are hurtin’ today though. Monday’s leg circuits + that run = seriously sore


Then this happened…

Kale chips – the blog world loves them.  I really wanted to attempt some kind of kale so I went for it, using this recipe.

so yeah.. They were decent. Crispy but not burnt, salty with parm.  I don’t really know what I was expecting. They were thin and almost dissolved in my mouth.  I lost interest after a few.

Would I make them again? Probably. But let’s be serious – they are not snack food and not as chip-like as I wanted, but a solid way to work in green veggies.


The biggest factor in my awesome mood – the weather. Its March and its in the 70’s. When I moved to Boston last year, I swear we got a foot of snow like every week til April..
My favorite part of my apartment is that I have a balcony and can open the slider. It makes me soo happy to have it open. This morning I woke up to this.

The sun was shining, the birds were chirping & the air was just awesome. It sounded cheesy just typing that. I should’ve taken a video so you can hear it.

I prepped dinner in the crock-pot and have fun lunch plans with Christina.

Friday, I ran for the first time in weeks.

Today, I took a look at my 2012 race plan (since I haven’t actually registered for any of them yet).

The next big race I want to do is the Hyannis Half & I’ll need to train properly if I want to PR. Taking a few weeks off certainly didn’t make me any faster. I started looking into training plans and realized that the race is 12 weeks away. Which means I need to start training THIS WEEK. Crazy how that snuck up on me. The end of Feb is only 12 weeks away?! Yup.

I’m going to follow the Hal Higdon Novice 2 program, plus yoga & strength training.

20111205-212024.jpgTonight, I ran 3 miles, a little bit faster than last time, though not as fast as I would like. Step in the right direction at least!

20111205-212038.jpgSaturday, I went to the Worcester Sharks game with JT & his friends. I still don’t fully understand hockey, but I’m getting there.

Afterwards, we went to Ducali to meet up with Christina & Adam.

I have a crazy list of recipes that I want to try. I’ve had this one in my inbox for awhile thanks to one my dear friends. She raved about how good these potatoes were. I don’t make potatoes often though so this recipe wasn’t high on the list. When Christina wanted to do dinner last night & I randomly had potatoes on hand, these sounded perfect.

use a bigger bowl than I did. It will work out MUCH better. I used regular dijon mustard rather than whole grain, just because its what I had.

I’m not a big sweets person. Salt > Sweet in my head always but red velvet anything… YUM.        Maybe I should add that to the crazy list


I predict there will be lots more deliciousness in my future. this weekend perhaps. 🙂   I got a few things on tap – including the Tufts 10K on Monday. Excited!

oh hello friends.

I’m in a great mood. Why?  I’m killin’ it this week.  Productivity makes me happyyy.  

All the fun things I’ve accomplished since Monday: 

On the workout front – I had a great run, spent some time shredding with Jillian (that has left me fairly sore), broke out my yoga dvd last night (YES, I did yoga fiiinally), and this morning, I got my ass out of bed to get in 3.5 miles before work. That my friends.. was tough, real tough.

I made lots of food – turkey meatloaf & sweet potatoes, Mama Pea’s spanish quinoa, and prepped tofu dippers for who knows when.  I was planning on having them last night, but realized I had forgotten that whole marinate step. So marinate they did. So, we’ll ignore the fact that I had pita chips & cottage cheese for dinner instead. 

Actually let’s not.

Has anyone else tried these?  Obsessed.  I need to stop buying them, but you should probably start.

went out for a drink –  just one. oh hello self-control, nice to see you again

not bad.

Tonight, I have a cooking date with the lovely Christina & maybe drinks with sister & bro-in-law. delightful. 

I’m ready for the weekend. Now where can I get one of these?
