St. Patrick’s Day weekend

Green beer, pub crawls, and festive get-ups?!

Apparently, I’m old.  Part of me says I should be partaking in these activities, like I’m missing out if I don’t.  The reality is as much as I love being festive, I had no interest in the holiday this year.

Friday night, I had dinner with the fam to celebrate the sister’s birthday. Crab cakes, homemade mac & cheese, wine, and cake. Fun night with the fam and I was home before 11. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Saturday, I was really low key:

I slept in like 11am for absolutely reason
went for an 8 mile run just because
cleaned my apt like a crazy person – vacuum, dusting, the works..
made a bunch of food just to have, like this:  Quinoa Crunch Casserole

have you ever seen broccoli here before? Nope.

Saturday night, JT & I went to the BC-Maine hockey game at the Garden

surprisingly fun given I'm not really a hockey fan. I'm learning..

game followed by beverages in a non-irish bar, typical Sat night style.

It was an awesome weekend. I’m not ready for it to be over, even if I did skip St. Patrick’s Day.

My 11 random things:

1. The first thing I do every single day is make my bed.

2. I hate pickles (and thats an understatement)

3. I was a cheerleader in high school.

4. I had my bedroom painted my high school colors and then insisted it was just because I loved the colors red & white. Cleeearly, those are unrelated.

5. I don’t feel right without nail polish.  

6. I was a HUGE Hanson fan, even saw them live when I was 13(-ish).

7. My middle name is Joyce.  Allison Joyce so I could be AJ.  I was until I was six.  Then I met a boy named AJ that I didn’t like. That was the end of that. 

8.  Both my parents and my sister are all accountants. Definitely not an accountant.

9. I went through a phase in college where I spoke in letters. “dear roommates, what time are we going out? love, alli”   We’re all glad that ended.

10. I’ve been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Oktoberfest in Munich, St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin, and Carnivale in Venice. All very fun.

11. Its been over five years since I owned a car. Sometimes I miss driving, but most of the time I don’t even notice.

1. Why did you start blogging?   I needed an outlet. I was living one life & dreaming about another.

2. If you could have one superpower, what would it be? Teleportation. Does that count as a superpower?   The ability to be anywhere at a moment’s notice would be amazing!

As if today were yesterday by Katie.  Love her blog. So many of her posts are fantastic and thought provoking.

Week 1 kicked my ass.

Goals –
1. Drink 64 oz of water a day – not difficult. Just something I needed to be aware of to get it done
2. get 8 hours of sleep – aside from Atlanta, this was fairly easy. Plan accordingly.

Lessons learned –
Just because you can run 13 miles does not mean you are in shape. Week 1, I was all excited and motivated. So… I overdid it. My quads are in more pain that anything else, and still are. Hellooo reality check.

Week 2

Goals –
1. take a multivitamin daily
2. no mid-week alcohol and no weekend headaches
(plus keep drinking lots of water and getting 8 hours of sleep)

I have a big bottle of vitamins at work and at home. They’re always available but just not part of the routine and should be. In terms of drinking, I go through phases where one week I’ll have a glass of wine or two almost every night and then some weeks I don’t have any. As much as I love wine, weeknight’s aren’t a habit I want. Obviously, I’m not cutting out alcohol for the weekends, but I needed a related goal for those two days. Given that its St. Patty’s weekend, headache & hangover free sounds like a great plan.

5 miler after work

Yesterday was supposed to be my first strength circuit of the week, but I swapped it for cardio instead.  My legs hurt and there were multiple stretching breaks, but I did 5 miles.  It felt great to be outside. It was gorgeous!! almost 70 degrees. How could I not go for run?!

I’ll attempt strength training today, but I’m going to modify the workout a bit to go easy on the quads. I’m hoping if I go easy on the legs today, they’ll be back to normal sooner than later.  My foam roller and I are spending lots of time together 😉

There are over 300 people in this bootcamp. In the facebook group, not one person has complained about being sore. How is that possible?!  I’m in serious pain. I attempted 6 miles today, made it though 4.  I’ll take it, but omg legs!! I knew I was going to be hurtin’, but if anything I thought my legs would the part of my body that might be actually kind-of in shape.  Wrong. My quads are DYING.

So today’s run was tough but good.

What else did I do today?

I slept super late (sooo nice), made a bunch of food, got my grocery shopping done, did some meal planning. Great lil Sunday.

Last night, I got unpacked, made myself dinner, hung out for a bit. So nice to be home and back in my apt. I met up with JT & his work friends at Liberty for a few drinks. Home & in bed by 1. love it.

Today, I got back to the gym, which I haven’t seen since Wednesday. oops. Granted Wednesday’s workout was at the hotel gym so the trip wasn’t a complete fail in that respect.   I did my third strength workout of the week for bootcamp. Of course, it kicked my ass.

My legs are still so sore from earlier this week. Thursday, they were barely functional. I spent some quality time with my foam roller afterwards though, so I’m hoping that helps. I have a feeling I’m going to be in pain for the majority of the next 7 weeks.

I’m off to F1 to celebrate Brent’s birthday with JT and much of the crew from last night. Pics tomorrow 🙂

I spent this last few days in Atlanta for a work conference.

It was great but exhausting. Excited to get back into the groove of real life.
